What is a smart display?

A display is a digital screen that presents something visually. Displays can be used to show readings. For instance, there are thermostats that display the temperature and manometers that display pressure levels in bar.

Nowadays, displays are capable of much more than showing information, which is why they are called smart displays. The term smart display indicates that the device also has a control function. For example, you can use a touch screen to set a thermostat to a higher or lower temperature. So the display suddenly turns into a switch that you can use to control the temperature of your central heating.

Smart display applications

Smart displays are used both to display information and to control equipment. For example, many home automation systems include a smart display. These displays are also widely used in industry. Examples include:

  • Printers
  • Pedicure equipment
  • Industrial control panels
  • Energy management systems, e.g. to show consumption
  • Displays on handheld meters

They are easy to programme using the manufacturer’s software. ELECTRONIC ASSEMBLY has programming and simulation software that lets you quickly and easily programme and test the display yourself.
