Hobo RXW-T21-xxx – Onset

HOBOnet soil water potential and temperature sensor, a complete system requires at least one Hobo RX3000 monitoring station with a HOBOnet wireless manager (RXMOD-RXW-xxx) or one Hobo MicroRX station (which has an integrated HOBOnet wireless manager).

The HOBOnet T21 is a wireless sensor designed for the HOBOnet system, providing precise measurements of both soil temperature and soil water potential—a more accurate metric for assessing water availability to plants. The T21 sensor is built to endure harsh environmental conditions and requires no calibration for varying soil types or salinity. It is pre-calibrated in a controlled chamber for accuracy within a range of -10 kPa to -80 kPa.

Key Features:

  • Soil Water Potential & Temperature Measurement: Offers a more accurate assessment of water availability to plants compared to volumetric water content sensors.
  • No Calibration Required: Designed to function across different soil types and salinity levels without the need for recalibration.
  • Durable Construction: The sensor’s epoxy coating ensures long-term reliability, allowing it to be deployed in the ground for extended periods.
  • Wide Measurement Range: Capable of measuring soil water potential from -9 to -2000 kPa.

HOBOnet System Advantages:

  • Scalable Wireless Monitoring: Ideal for crop management, research, and greenhouse operations, allowing for easy deployment and monitoring across multiple points without the hassle of long cables.
  • Reliable Data Access: Data can be accessed remotely via HOBOlink, Onset’s cloud-based software platform.
  • Robust Communication: Operates on a 900 MHz wireless mesh self-healing network with a range of 450 to 600 meters, extendable with wireless repeaters.
  • Battery-Powered & Solar-Powered: The sensor is powered by rechargeable AA batteries and includes a built-in solar panel for continuous operation.

Applications:

  • Agriculture: Monitor soil conditions to optimize water use and improve crop yields.
  • Environmental Research: Collect data on soil conditions over long periods to study environmental changes.
  • Greenhouse Operations: Ensure optimal growing conditions by accurately monitoring soil temperature and moisture availability.

The Hobo RXW-T21-xxx sensor is a reliable, long-lasting solution for anyone needing precise, real-time data on soil conditions, without the need for frequent maintenance or calibration.
